The Stables retains many of its original features: high kitchen ceilings, exposed wood beams and attractive stonework.

The cottage is furnished to a very high standard with quality furniture, phone and Wi-Fi, widescreen TV with Freeview, Video / DVD player and a well-equipped kitchen.

The Stables holiday cottage is full of the kind character and original charm you might expect from a converted farm building.

Add to this the many home comforts and facilities provided, and you have a most agreeable and comfortable way to spend a week self-catering in North Yorkshire.

The Stables is a beautiful holiday cottage sleeps six people. The accommodation comprises:
Sitting room with wood burning stove and patio doors leading into a lovely wood-framed conservatory.

Family meals will be something to remember in this exquisite dining room with its exposed stone walls and original wooden beams.

The Kitchen is very well equipped with all you will need for a self-catering break. (Tea cloths and towels included). There is an electric cooker, microwave, kettle, toaster, iron and ironing board, and washing machine. There is a fridge and dishwasher and guests will also have access to a utility room.

The stable boasts ample sleeping space with 3 amazing bedrooms! There is a very comfortable double room with large barn window and window seat that features restored pine furniture and exposed wood beams.

A spacious twin bedroom with a luxurious pine bedroom suite, and also a cosy single room that can be converted into another twin bedroom with the use of a hideaway bed. 

All bed linen and towels are provided. Bathroom with shaver points, bath, shower, wash hand basin and WC. Separate shower room with shower, WC and wash hand basin.

The Stables is part of Home Farm, a collection of 2 semi detached holiday cottages that are situated on spacious grounds with ample parking and provides the ideal base for touring, walking, cycling and exploring the many picturesque villages, stately homes and attractions of the region.

Things you may need to know

Stables cottage and Arches cottage are on the old Slingsby estate and converted from the original farm buildings but there are still some old farm buildings on the grounds as well as next door on the neighbouring grounds.

The owners home is also on the same grounds.

The bedroom doors all lock from the inside with a bolt so please ensure your children are aware.

New fire regulations regarding external doors may mean that the holiday home Is not suitable for disabled people

The local area

The village has the benefit of a sports field with an active sports and social club, a mobile post office, a mobile library, fish and chips on wheels, mobile butcher and fishmonger, newspaper deliveries and regular bus service.

The village has many facilities including a fantastic (dog-friendly) pub, The Grapes Inn, serving excellent food and beer an is just a few hundres yards from the cottage, an active village hall and a farm shop which provides for most everyday requirements.

There is also All Saints Church. a Methodist Chapel, a village green with Maypole (used on May Day each year) and playing fields, with a recently re-surfaced tennis court for anyone to use freely, along with a small playground area for small children. Slingsby also has its very own Castle ruins!

Award winning war museum situated just outside of Malton on the Pickering road. Experience life as they did in the barracks of World War Two. A fascinating insight into our history.

Castle Howard – The grandest house in the North of England, and the set of Brideshead Revisited, Castle Howard. There is parkland, an adventure playground, lakes, a garden centre, gardens and cafe.

Kirkham Priory – Set by the river Derwent, this is the perfect place for a picnic and a gentle stroll through some lovely ruins.

Rievaulx Abbey – is the largest ruined monastic abbey in the country. Stunning architecture, extensive grounds and a well-stocked gift shop. Take time to visit the museum and exhibition.

Rievaulx Terraces and Temples – Not far from the market town of Helmsley, the grassed terraces and woods of Rievaulx provide great walking and exploration. There are two 18th Century temples.

Goathland – Heartbeat Country – otherwise known as Aidensfield in the television series Heartbeat, is a gem of a place. For the serious walker, there are some excellent circular walks around the village and to surrounding beauty spots. For those less inclined to strenuous exercise, relax with a cuppa, or enjoy the village shops.

Helmsley, Gateway to the moors – Enjoy this attractive North Yorkshire town. It’s large market square makes it a favourite of biker groups, whilst the cobbled streets and interesting variety of shops offer much to day-trippers. Market day Friday. Also home to Duncombe Park house and gardens, and Helmsley Castle.

Malton, Ryedale’s main market town – The nearest and largest market town to Slingsby, and the “capital city” of Ryedale. There is a bus service to Malton, and a train station. Traditional farmers’ market once a month, and Saturday markets in the town centre.

The Market Town of Pickering – Take time to visit Pickering and its castle, and perhaps take a ride on the steam railway up to Goathland – home to the popular TV series, Heartbeat.

Rosedale – A beautiful village in the North Yorkshire Moors. A great place for a walk. Explore the kilns high on the hillsides above the village. Very windy!

Dalby Forest is a great place for all the family to explore and enjoy. With it’s 8000 areas of woodland, play areas, waymarked trails and wildlife, Dalby is undoubtedly a star Ryedale attraction.

Flamingoland Theme Park and Zoo – Situated between Malton and Pickering. Daring rides and interesting animals – and all in one day!

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway – Visit Britain’s most popular steam railway and experience the stunning scenery and rugged beauty as the North York Moors fly past your window.

The North Yorkshire Moors – The Arches and the Stables holiday cottages are within sight of the North Yorkshire Moors. There are some beautiful walks in this area; wild heather clad moorlands and historical monuments. (Guide books and maps available in the local shop.)

The Howardian Hills – Slingsby is a great base from which to explore the Howardian Hills. This is an “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty” – best explored on foot – there are many miles of gentle and well waymarked walks in the area.

We understand that preparing an autistic person for a holiday can be challenging. At spectrum holidays we are always looking for ways to make this process easier for our families. We have visited each of the holiday homes personally and have put together a social story for each one. Just let us know how we can best support you in your holiday preparation and we will create personalised visual countdown calendar or timetable for you!

Inside the holiday homes you will find a set of visuals to help support you while on holiday, there is also a “now, next, later” travel keyring to take out and about with you as well as some information about the local area.

We work closely with all of our holiday home owners so there will always be someone available to help should you have any problems during your holiday. Please contact Spectrum Holidays in the first instance with any queries or issues and if applicable we will contact the holiday home owner on your behalf. We can also provide information on the surrounding area, local amenities or visitor attractions

How to book

A £100 deposit is required to secure your chosen dates. Interest free monthly payments are available for Stables Cottage with full payment due 4 weeks before arrival date.

7 night minimum stay for during peak times, short stays available on request for other times of the year.
