LLangloffan Manse Sensory Information

The environment

Auditory considerations:

  • This is a rural area with a farm nearby, including an equestrian feed centre on the other side of the valley. When the wind direction is towards us, it’s possible to hear the reversing beeps of the farm vehicles from across the valley.
  • The hamlet of Llangloffan is very quiet, with occasional tractors and cars using the road.
  • The owners have a garage in the driveway and occasionally, there may be noise from an engine starting or from power tools, however such noise is occasional and would only be for a short time.
  • There is a field next door to the garden that in the warmer months (approximately March to November) has a herd of bullocks. They are naturally curious and may gather by the fence to see who is visiting the cottage. They are not usually noisy, but sometimes there is an occasional loud ‘moo’. They like scratching their heads on the fence posts but generally, are very quiet neighbours!
  • The cottage has a washing machine and dishwasher in the kitchen, and there is an open hatch from the kitchen into the sitting room. It would be possible to hear these appliances when they are on, from the sitting room.
  • The cottage has a log burner and this can make noises such as spitting, crackling and hissing; these are some of the sounds of wood burning on the fire.
  • The heating is programmed to come on from 7am – 9pm downstairs, and in the morning and late afternoon upstairs. The radiators upstairs may occasionally make a gurgling sound as the water moves through the system.
  • In the carved cleaning cupboard at the bottom of the stairs, you may notice the sound of the underfloor heating working when this door is open. If very sound sensitive, you might possibly detect the faint sound of the owner’s washing machine next door, if it is on (it is the other side of the cupboard wall).

Other sensory considerations:

  • There is underfloor heating throughout the ground floor, with an individual thermostat in each room. Dogs may find room temperature uncomfortable, the kitchen is set a degree or two lower for this reason.
  • There is a weighted blanket in one of the bedrooms which is available for use.
  • Spectrum Holidays provide a sensory pack which is located in the dining room.
  • There are shelves in the dining room with a range of toys and resources for your use during your stay. Please leave these behind when you leave, thank you.
  • If requested, you will have the use of a Safe Place Bed provided by Spectrum Holidays.
  • This is an excellent ‘dark skies’ area with little to no light pollution in this area. At night, the air control tower at Haverfordwest airport (half an hour’s drive away) is visible (three vertical red lights) but it is a rarely-used private airport and we do not have air traffic noise at all.
  • There is a ‘horse swing’ in the garden hanging from a very tall tree, this means that the rope is very long and gives a slow swing, from a single point. The horse swing will also rotate (spin) in either direction as wanted when in use.
  • There is a climbing frame with two swings on it, they are hung with two chains each, meaning the swing is backwards and forwards. They are hung from a wooden climbing frame and there is a ladder up to a platform which is approximately 4 foot in height, with wooden rails around it and access to a slide with a gentle bump in it. There are ‘monkey bars’ (horizontal ladder rungs) above the swings.
  • There is an area at the bottom of the garden with seating around so you can enjoy the view across the valley. This has four iron chairs that have a gentle rocking movement backwards and forwards.
