One of the highlights of their stay for many young guests are our pony riding sessions which are suitable for any children up to around 12 (but size dependent) The sessions are included in the cost of your stay and currently run several times a week.
Our ponies offering rides are Crystal and Ginger and our other lovely ponies, now retired from giving rides, are Secret and Rupert.
Crystal is a pretty Welsh grey pony with pink on her nose. She is quite the character!
Our latest addition to the Bosinver gang is Ginger, Crystal’s new best friend, who is just the sweetest girl. Guess what colour she is?!
Secret is a typical Thelwell character – a grey Welsh pony who believes his sole purpose in life is to eat. His lovely nature won the hearts of many of the children who had their first ride on him. He’s now 31 and although retired from giving rides he can still be seen enjoying life in our meadows.
Rupert is a roan (brown in summer and grey in winter) Dartmoor pony and he is Secret’s best friend. He has retired from riding due to arthritis in his back legs but you can find him chilling out with our other ponies, enjoying his dotage!
Wilfred, Juna, Angel and Lad are the Shire horses. They belong to a neighbouring farmer, Alfie, but live here most of the year and have appeared on the “Hungry Sailors” TV programme! If you fancy a horse-drawn carriage ride during your stay, contact Alfie at Pikna Shire Horses to see if you can arrange an adventure around the local lanes.
