Haggerston Castle Sensory Caravans

Our sensory-friendly caravans have been carefully designed to support autistic individuals, disabled guests, and their families to enjoy calmer, more accessible holidays.

We understand that holidays can feel overwhelming when environments are unfamiliar, noisy, or unpredictable.

Our caravans are charity-owned and have been carefully designed by Spectrum Holidays to help reduce anxiety, support sensory regulation, and make family holidays feel more achievable.

Both caravans include sensory equipment, themed bedrooms, visual supports, and additional features designed to help autistic guests feel safe, comfortable and relaxed during their stay.

We also provide extensive support before your holiday to help families prepare for their trip.

What’s included?

Our sensory caravans include:

  • Sensory toys and fidget resources

  • Blackout blinds
  • Themed bedding options
  • WiFi
  • Smart TV / Sky TV / Streaming services

  • Dinosaurs
  • Unicorns
  • Toy Story
  • Thomas and Friends

FREE Haven park passes included

All stays in our sensory caravans include FREE park passes for the disabled or autistic person, and their immediate family members.

Park passes include:

  • Access to swimming and activities
  • Discounts on Haven activities
  • Discounts in food & drink outlets
  • Discounts in the park shop
  • Access to owners’ swim sessions
  • Access to Badgers Lodge owners’ lounge

Owners’ swim sessions

Guests can access the quieter owners’ swim sessions held each morning before the main pool opens.

These quieter sessions can be particularly beneficial for autistic guests who may struggle with busier swimming environments.

Guests will need to take their park passes with them.

Badgers Lodge owners’ lounge

Families also have access to Badgers Lodge — a quieter alternative to the main entertainment complex.

This relaxed environment can provide valuable downtime away from crowds, noise and busy entertainment areas.

Park passes are required for access.

Before and during your stay

We understand that preparing an autistic person for a holiday can be challenging. At Spectrum Holidays we are always looking for ways to make this process easier for our families. We design bespoke, personalised visual stories and countdown calendars for every person that would benefit from additional preparation for their holiday with us.

Activity booking information

Once full payment has been made for your stay:

  • We will register your arrival directly with Haven
  • Haven will send a confirmation email
  • This will include your car pass and activity booking information
  • You can then book activities directly through Haven

We recommend booking activities as early as possible, especially during school holidays and peak dates.

More than just a holiday

At Spectrum Holidays we believe every family deserves the opportunity to enjoy holidays and make memories together.

Our sensory-friendly caravans are designed to create:

  • More accessibility
  • More confidence
  • More inclusion
  • Less stress
  • Happier family memories

Because holidays should be for everyone.

Places to visit

Haggerston castle lies just a few minutes away from Spittal beach, Cocklawburn beach and many more. The sandy beaches of the Northumberland coast are a very popular place for families and a good place for spotting seals and dolphins!

Haggerston Castle is close to an array of castles; Alnwick castle, which is the largest inhabited castle in the Europe and is of course most famous for being a location used in the Harry Potter movies. They have lots of activities on throughout the year, as well as having, on the same site, the award-winning visitor attraction, Alnwick Gardens. With its beautiful 12 acres of magnificent gardens, tree house restaurant and stunning water features that children can play in, Alnwick Castle and Gardens is a fantastic day out.

Bamburgh castle, loved locally for its amazing history and beautiful views across the coast, as well as the famously haunted Chillingham castle are all close by and well worth a visit.

Holy island is just 6 miles away and accessed by a causeway is a hugely popular place to visit.

The Farne islands are beautiful and home to thousands of sea birds and puffins. Sightseeing boats to the islands leave from Seahouses harbour regularly.

Local shops

Berwick is a 15 minute drive away from the caravan site where you will find all the shops and amenities you need, including.

Asda – you can get shopping delivered directly to the caravan.

Lidl – Tweedbank Retail Park

Tesco – Ord Drive, Berwick

Morrisons – Loaning Meadows, Berwick

Tweedbank retail park also houses an Argos, Farmfoods, Marks and Spencer food hall, Halfords, Homebase and Poundland.

The swan centre is  a local leisure centre with swimming pool and gym.

Berwick also has many restaurants and take away shops.

Things you may need to know

As with all caravans, the windows and doors also act as a means of escape in an emergency situation and therefore window restrictors or key locks are not able to be fitted, the doors lock with thumb turners from inside and the front door locks from the outside with a key.

Haggerston Castle holiday park has lots of lakes of varying sizes on the grounds. Our caravans are sited on Troon and there are no lakes in that area.

The park is a Haven site and can get busy and noisy in all areas of the park – our pitches are one of the quietest areas of the park, however, we cannot guarantee the behaviour of the other guests around you. Haggerston castle has a land train which is used by all guests to navigate the park. There are stops located around the park and 1 is approx 30 yards from our caravans .

The train may come past the caravans a few times a day but is not very loud. Security vans drive by regularly and will sometimes carry gas bottle refills which can clank when going over speed bumps. The park bins get emptied every day in peak season, and large Biffa lorries will drive past the caravans each morning.

Please note; The safe space bed is only available to those that have been prescribed one by their OT and proof of this will be requested. They are expensive and highly specialised pieces of equipment.

How to book and prices

We offer short breaks and week long bookings in our Sensory Caravans. As the holiday homes are owned and managed directly by the charity we are able to subsidise the costs of your stay. We ask that you only request a booking if either you care for an autistic person, or you are autistic yourself, or your child/young person has a neurological condition and would benefit from the services we offer. Please be aware that only the autistic or disabled person and their immediate families will be considered for a holiday. We cannot accept multiple families in one caravan, or bookings that include extended family members, or family friends.

As a charity we are able to provide play passes free of charge for the autistic person and immediate family only. You will still need to book and pay for the activities you wish to take part in during your stay and this can be done online before arrival
